About Techally

Techally Consult PLC is an Ethiopian technology and health systems consulting company committed to developing innovative digital solutions that strengthen health service delivery and health information systems. Through collaboration with government, research institutions, and development partners, Techally designs and evaluates digital health innovations that improve efficiency, data quality, and health outcomes.

Techally is implementing the VaxConnect Project, an implementation research initiative evaluating VaxConnect — a digital platform designed to integrate routine immunization service delivery with vaccine supply chain management in selected woredas of Ethiopia. The project aims to generate evidence on the feasibility, acceptability, usability, and effectiveness of VaxConnect in improving immunization programme performance, vaccine management, caregiver engagement, and data-driven decision-making.

About this role

To support the baseline assessment, Techally Consult PLC is seeking qualified and motivated Data Collectors to conduct facility assessments, extract routine immunization performance data, and collect qualitative information from health workers and programme managers.

Data collectors will work under the supervision of project leads, field supervisors, and the coordinator at Armauer Hansen Research Institute. Study sites include Zikuala and Sekota Zuria woredas in Amhara Region, and Aysaita and Adaar woredas in Afar Region.

What you'll do

  • Conduct health facility assessments using the Facility Assessment and Immunization Service Observation Tool
  • Observe routine immunization service delivery and document service readiness and workflow
  • Extract routine immunization programme indicators from health facility records, immunization registers, tally sheets, stock records, and DHIS2 reports using the Routine Immunization Performance Indicator Extraction Tool
  • Verify completeness and consistency of extracted data across multiple data sources
  • Ensure all required quantitative data are accurately recorded using REDCap
  • Conduct Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) with health workers, facility managers, immunization focal persons, woreda health office staff, and other stakeholders using project qualitative tools
  • Facilitate interviews professionally while maintaining neutrality and confidentiality; take comprehensive field notes and support audio recording following informed consent procedures
  • Translate and transcribe qualitative interviews where required
  • Review completed questionnaires daily for completeness and consistency; resolve data discrepancies with respondents before leaving study sites
  • Upload completed electronic (REDCap) data to server and report field challenges promptly to supervisors
  • Participate in daily debriefing meetings, project training, and pilot testing of data collection tools
  • Obtain informed consent from all study participants and adhere to approved research protocols and ethical guidelines
  • Travel to assigned health facilities according to the fieldwork schedule and perform other project-related duties as assigned

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Nursing, Health Officer, Health Informatics, Epidemiology, or another relevant health-related field (MPH/MSc is an added advantage)
  • At least two years of experience in health research or public health surveys
  • Demonstrated experience in quantitative and qualitative data collection
  • Experience conducting health facility assessments or programme evaluations is desirable
  • Experience extracting routine health information from facility registers, DHIS2, or HMIS records
  • Experience using electronic data collection platforms such as KoboToolbox, ODK, SurveyCTO, REDCap, or CommCare is an advantage
  • Previous experience working on immunization, maternal and child health, digital health, or implementation research projects is highly desirable

Technical skills

  • REDCap or similar electronic data capture platforms
  • KoboToolbox, ODK, SurveyCTO, or CommCare
  • DHIS2 and HMIS data extraction
  • Health facility assessments and programme evaluations
  • Key Informant Interview facilitation and transcription
  • Routine immunization programme indicators and registers

Personal qualities

  • Excellent interviewing and communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision
  • High attention to detail and commitment to data quality
  • Ability to travel extensively and work in rural and pastoral settings
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
  • Good written and spoken English
  • Fluency in Amharic is required
  • Proficiency in the Afar language is highly desirable for assignments in the Afar Region.

What you'll accomplish

  • High-quality baseline quantitative and qualitative data for the VaxConnect implementation research study
  • Accurate facility assessments and routine immunization performance indicator extraction across study sites
  • Reliable REDCap submissions and field documentation that support evidence generation on VaxConnect feasibility and effectiveness
